Elvo is for people with severe speech impairments caused by medical or neurological conditions that affect their ability to speak. This includes people whose speech has become unreliable or impossible due to conditions such as ALS, aphasia, dysarthria, or other disorders that affect speech production.
Elvo is used when spoken communication is needed, but natural speech can no longer meet daily communication needs.

Elvo allows a person to type words or phrases using the device. The device then speaks those words out loud using built-in speech software.
The spoken voice comes through the device’s speaker so communication can happen naturally with others, whether that’s answering a question, expressing a need, or participating in conversation.
Before someone begins using Elvo, a speech-language pathologist helps determine whether a speech generating device is the right fit.
This evaluation focuses on how the person communicates, how they will use the device, and whether a dedicated speech device is needed to support everyday communication. Elvo is used when a person cannot depend on their own voice to communicate clearly.
Elvo can speak using a preserved voice when one is available. This means the device can generate speech using a voice that was recorded earlier, or with assistance, before speech became too limited. For people with conditions where speech loss is expected over time, this allows communication to continue in a familiar voice even after natural speech is no longer reliable.

Elvo is provided on a tablet-based device that is set up specifically for speech generation.
The device includes:
1. a tablet configured for speech output
2. built-in apeakers for clear spoken voice
3. a rechargeable battery suitable for daily use
4. a durable design intended for long-term use
Depending on a person’s needs, the device may be used with different mounting or access options. Elvo is focused on reliable speech output, not general tablet use.
Elvo is used after a speech-language pathologist evaluates a person’s communication needs and determines that a speech generating device is appropriate. The device is provided through medical equipment suppliers, with documentation used to support insurance review when required.
